AEBE, Diakonia Food Bank and Grupo Entregas sign alliance to reduce food waste

With the purpose of converting the country's productive, logistical and social capacity into well-being for more Ecuadorian families, the Diakonía Food Bank, Grupo Entregas and the Association of Banana Exporters of Ecuador (AEBE), as the coordinating entity of the Banana and Plantain Cluster of Ecuador, signed a Tripartite Agreement for Logistics and Supply Cooperation .

This alliance will allow bananas donated by producers and companies in the sector to reach the communities that need them most in an efficient, traceable and timely manner , strengthening access to nutritious food and promoting a more supportive, sustainable and integrated value chain.


The agreement establishes a cooperation model in which AEBE will lead the coordination with the export sector to manage weekly donations ; Grupo Entregas will facilitate the logistics and free transport of up to two tons of fruit from the farms; and the Diakonia Food Bank will be in charge of the reception, classification and technical distribution of the product, ensuring that it reaches the beneficiary families under traceability and control standards.


Representing the Cluster were: José Antonio Hidalgo , coordinator; Marcel Laniado , a businessman with expertise in the banana sector; from Grupo Entregas : María Paulina Romo, president of the group, and María José Sánchez, manager of the Guayaquil station; representing Banco de Alimentos Diakonía were Mónica Echeverría , leader of management, quality, and project processes, along with Valeria Yánez , communications coordinator. Also participating in this process were Sandra Monroy , member of the AEBE board and CEO of Frutadeli; and Pamina González , deputy director of the association.


María Paulina Romo, president of Grupo Entregas , highlighted the company's commitment to operational efficiency in service of social causes. “Our value proposition is to demonstrate that logistics can go beyond business: it can become a bridge for social impact. Through this agreement with AEBE and the Diakonia Food Bank, Grupo Entregas puts its network, experience, and operational capacity at the service of a common cause: rescuing food, activating solutions, and transforming business efforts into well-being for the country ,” she stated.


With an initial term of one year, this agreement brings together the productive, logistical and social sectors around a common purpose: to expand access to nutritious food, strengthen inter-institutional cooperation and generate measurable social impact for communities in vulnerable situations.


The signatory institutions reaffirmed their commitment to continuous cooperation, transparency, and impact measurement through the exchange of statistical data that will allow them to monitor, report, and strengthen the results of this alliance.
